As one of the two international airports in Hailan Island, Sanya Fenghuang (Phoenix) International Airport not only enjoys a favorable location by the picturesque surroundings of Luhuitou Peninsula, Tianya Haijiao and South China Sea, but has provided great convenience for travelers since opened in 1994. Having been expanded in 2002 and 2003 to meet the rapid yearly growth of 20% in passenger receiving, the airport is now well-equipped with airport lounges, passenger dressing rooms and commercial center and available for a variety of services such as luggage claim, unaccompanied children registration and easy boarding, etc. The expansion of the main terminal and the construction of a new international terminal are being carried out to enlarge the capacity of handling passengers up to 6,000,000 every year.
