Does anybody know anything about skiing near Urumqi? As where you can do it and how you go about it? Any info would be great.

You are very lucky ,because you choose this time to travel in Urumqi.In January winter already has come to Urumqi,and snow is always very heavy.Everything is covered by the beautiful snow flake. The silver pretends to be in white.And the one of "Urumqi eight sceneries"-----"embrace the snow" will appear. I think the best place for skating is Mt.Nan area. Here,hill is green,the sky is blue and the snow is very white compared with the hill. The temperature is higher than the urban area.
Urumqi has two Ski Resorts. One is Nanshan Ski Resort, the other is Tianshan Ski Resort. From Nov to Mar should be the best time for ski in Urumqi. Long snowing period, good snow quality, mild wind, and suitable centigrade below -10 Celsius for ski. And you also can taste and enjoy the typical Silk Road.
