Any idea about tipping in Beijing ? |

I'm never very clear about tips for guides in China. I would not tip at all if they are dragging me to tourist shops, rushing me through the actual sites, and complaining about how slow I am, etc.
If they do a good job, something like 10% seems appropriate to me. |

I have just returned from Beijing.
For hotel staff, I tipped 20RMB to the porter who helped to move our luggages, or to those who had helped us in all ways.
For taxi, I rounded up the fares. E.g. I gave the driver 80RMB when the meter showed 72RMB, and so on.
For tour guide and the driver, it was recommended by our travel agent to show your appreciation by tipping them around 40RMB per day per person.
Just my personal opinion, but I hope you would find it useful.

Please just know that you should tip tour guides and drivers. The only persons in china who get tips! If it is a good service and you have a "private" tour guide for you or your group I would say 10 USD per day should be sufficient. The driver normally gets half of it as i know.
If it a tour guide on a seat in coach tour and you allready bought something in the markets they pulled you to, you do not have to tip that much. If you bought a lot, dont tip! |
