Hotel (2-3 stars) and hostel (YHA) price are similar and the most important is that hostel is far away from the city and the numbers are less, unlike Thailand, Australia, Europe or New Zealand.
Food are generally cheap but of course it is more expensive if compared with Thailand's. However, you can try different countries' food in HK. Chinese food (Dim Sum) should be tried and there are so many Chinese restaurants everywhere
Normally, visitors spend 3-4 days in HK

Flights are cheap from Bangkok to HK - you should be able to get good prices from a local travel agent - just look in the local papers there & you'll find a bunch of agencies to choose from.
It is expensive if you aren't careful. But you can visit here cheaply if you do a little research.
Here's a link for hotels & guesthouses:
http://www.china-hotel-guide/
You can find rooms for as little as $20 US, or into the hundreds!
Food is cheap if you avoid the "western" restaurants. Eat at the Chinese places & even cheaper if you go outside of the touristy areas. You can get an excellent meal for less than 5 bucks.
Most people on a budget go to the guesthouses in Tsim Sha Tsui. There are also hostels in Wan Chai, but I've heard they are dodgey.
Anything else I can help with let me know |

Round trip flights from BKK are pretty cheap don't forget to compare the prices you get with other travel agents. Some of the travel agents post the price of their flights in their windows.
Hotels are expensive in Hong Kong, you won't find the same good cheap hotel prices that you have in Thailand. Sometimes the travel agencies run a "package deal" air and hotel for one price. The hotels are discounted pretty good. Won't find these deals for Christmas, New Years, Chinese New Year and Fri. Sat. or Sun. I guess I am saying these special package deals are usually good for Mon. thru Thurs. (They have lots of customers on weekends and holidays.) Some of the travel agencies across from the Nana Hotel run specials like this sometimes.
I like the "special discount price hotels" that have an "all you can eat" breakfast buffet. With a breakfast buffet I can fill up enough to hold me until I find a cheap McDonalds in the evening. Two hotels that I used were the Panda and Imperial Hotels. |
