China's First Express Bus Line in Operation |

China's first express bus line started operation December 30, 2005 in Beijing at Qianmen, which also witnessed the country's first railway line and tramcar line in history.
The express bus line started from Qianmen and ended at Demaozhuang with a total length of 15.8 kilometers.Compared with normal buses with a speed of 20 kilometers per hour, high-capacity express bus can ran at an average speed of 26 kilometers per hour. In the near future, an even larger bus, which is 25 meters in length with a capacity of 300 people, will run in the city streets at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour.
Investment of express bus is one-tenth of the city's subway and takes less time to build (one-fifth of subway). Its total capacity can reach up to half of the subway's.
As new transportation means, more large capacity buses will run in the city streets in future. According to Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Transportation Bureau Zhou Zhengyu, in 2006, anther high-capacity express bus line would be put to operation in Chaoyang Road. Meanwhile, the city plans to build two express bus lines, one in the Anlilu in north and another in the Fushilu in west. |
