Business Chinese |

I'm on a career break at the moment and am looking at doing a practical business chinese course in Beijing or Shanghai. I'm of Chinese ancestry and studied Mandarin as a 2nd language for 10 years at school but I've just never used it much. I'd like to get my Mandarin up to a "working Mandarin" level (ie. be somewhat able to negotiate and read contracts). Does anyone know of a suitable course (preferably intensive) in Beijing or Shanghai? Any information will be much appreciated. |

More than likely there are courses offered at some of the larger schools in Beijing and Shanghai. Go on line and try to find their web site. Then write and tell them of your interest.
Another idea would be to see if you can volunteer to help a company at no charge to them in like an internship for a couple of months. Check with your local Chamber of Commerce or the regional USA Chamber of Commerce and see if they have local companies with branches, offices, or factories in China. You may not end up in Beijing or Shanghai, but it will be much less expensive living outside those two cities. You might be able to negotiate a home stay with a family at the same time. If they are a college educated family, they will usually have good Mandarin skills in almost all areas of the country. Local Shang Hai families tend to rely more on Shanghaiese dialect, especially if they didn't attend university. But all locals when they get together socially will like to use their regional dialect more than offical Mandarin. |
