Train tickets from HongKong to Kunming, Yunnan.... |
|
|
Can anyone recommend a travel agent in China who can help book train ticket for us, from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and then from Guangzhou to Kunming??
Our RTW ticket brings us to Hong Kong and we have to get to Kunming in Yunnan. Flights are quite expensive and overland travel seems to be the only option. And it so happens that our travel date falls on and around Chinese New Year.
Thanks for your help!!

i have a feeling that travel agents won't be that much cheaper as your ticket will be priced according to the HK market. if you're trying to cut costs, it's much much cheaper to go to guangzhou on your own and then take it from there. as long as you're willing to go in hard seat hell, getting a ticket is not so bad...if i remember correctly, it was 30 something hours between guangzhou and kunming and it was something like Y200...but this was a few years ago...things change in china quickly. getting a hold of hard sleepers are next to impossible arond the time you're going to be there. you might have luck upgrading on the train, but that's probably what everyone else but the dirt poor in hard seat hell are planning as well. as far as getting to guangzhou, the train from HK to shenzhen (china/hk border...train station name is lo wu) is basically the overgrown subway (KCR) i think about HK$35 and from shenzhen to guangzhou there's trains literally every few minutes (about Y60 to 80). getting from guangzhou to kunming is gonna be tough. |
