Entering Tibet without a tour |
|
|
Hi, I am planning a trip to Tibet with my partner but I am a bit confused with the way to obtain the Tibet Travel Permit. I have read that you have to be part of a tour group to obtain this, but I have also had information that you can obtain this permit by 2 or more people travelling into the country together - can any one help? What is the best and cheapest way to travel into Tibet without a tour from Hong Kong?
Thanks I hope to hear from someone soon |

Well, you can actually enter as a single traveller, too, as a one-man-group, so to say - that is how I did it. But you still have to get a permit from the travel agency.
As far as I know the cheapest way to enter Tibet by plane would be from Chengdu - for 1500-2000 Yuan for flight and permit. Than you can stay as long as you want (your Chinese Visa allows) in Lhasa. But for ongoing trips throughout Tibet you have to get further permits in Lhasa - try those hostels, they have lists with fellow travellers who want to share the costs...
If you organize a Tibet trip from HK or even abroad, thing get much more expensive... |
