How to get Yunnan from Tibet after Lhasa travel? |
|
|
Hi Guys,
As some of you may know, me and my girlfriend are exploring south west China over a 5-6 week period next March/April. we're hoping to spend 2 weeks in Tibet & 2 weeks in the Yunnan province.
I realise it'll be much easier to enter Tibet from Chengdu, so we'll fly in from there.
My question is: do we need to come back to Chengdu to catch a train to Kunming, or is there a way to get directly from Tibet into the Yunnan province?
Thanks again!!

Theres a road but officially its off limit for tourist unless you have a special permit. That means it has to go through a travelagency and involves getting a 4wd, driver and maybe even a guide. It takes several days, often the landcruisertour takes 1 week. With your time on hand I would suggest entering Tibet from Chengdu by flight and leave to Zhongdian in Yunnan by flight. That will give you time to explore Yunnan too.
if you already have permit by travel agency in Chengdu you can go to tibet and on the way back, come to urumqi then leave to Kunming is better!
