Travel during Tomb Sweeping Day |

I will be in Hong Kong April 2-9, 2005 and traveling in mainland China April 9-16, 2005. I have read that there is a holiday called Tomb Sweeping Day (Qing Ming Jie) that usually occurs around April 4-6. I am wondering how much this will affect plane and train ticket and hotel availability. |

Qing Ming is only a public holiday in Hong Kong and Macau, and only
lasts one day. There's a lot of bustle in the direction of graveyards,
most of which are on the steepest hillsides and not notably in the
direction of anywhere you might want to go in particular, although
transportation to some outlying islands might also be busier, for those
visiting graves there.
In China, those living near the graves of immediate ancestors may
choose to make a family trip with an almost picnic atmosphere during
the weekend nearest to the festival.
In neither place is there much effect on long distance transport or
hotels. |
