hihi
I am planning to bring my family (10pax) to HK in Dec. I have problems of deciding which hotel and the tour agents were not knowledgeable.
I am looking for 3 to 4 star hotels, good size rooms, conveniently located near MTR. We will have 2 babies with us (<1 year old) and will be our 1st trip overseas with them!
thanks for advise!

Well, I believe getting 2 x family room and 1 double room (I assume 10 adults) will be more economical. YMCA family suite has a King/Double bed and a sofa bed in each family room.
Alternatively, there is a lot of discussion about family room in this forum and you may want to do a seach on it.

Is YMCA environment good and safe? Looks very basic compared to the usual hotels along nathan?
what about Majestic?
I dropped Prudential due to too many bad reviews.. dirty, eerie, smoky, rude hotel staff etc...

Hi,
To be honest, YMCA is not a hotel, it is considered a hostel. That is why their tax is only 10% and not the 13% as other hotel tax. So do not expect those luxury of a hotel. Go to YMCA Hong Kong website and take a look at their rooms. But pictures can be deceiving.
I am going to Hong Kong in Nov and have booked a family suite in YMCA Salisbury via a local HK travel agent. the rate is quite good. I hope I have made a right decision. There are better choices. The reason why I choose YMCA is because,
1. It is very near to TST MTR station. It will be easier just in case we need to dash back to the hotel anytime for any reason.
2. It is by the habour so I can bring my kid down for a cool walk anytime.
Furthermore, it is near the Star Ferry and a Mcdonalds is nearby.

I need to know your budget before recommending the right hotels for you..... however, you better book fast b/c this December's rooms are fairly booked up already to my knowledge.... also be warned, during December this
year, hotel rooms are expensive in HK.
As I have a baby, expecting the 2nd one, I am very fussy and picky about the hotels we stay at when we travel.
According to my standards, I would recommend that you book at least 3 rooms, or family suites.
I have no idea what the prices are for these hotels ,but do check them out b/c they would suit your needs best.
Holiday Inn Golden Mile, YMCA Salisbury, Excelsior, Miramar, Park Hotel.
Other hotels you can consider that are NOT as close to the MTR, but good size rooms and affordable prices.
Royal Plaza, New World Renaissance (Kowloon), Marco Polo Hong Kong,
Good Luck !

Tough to travel with so many, I did once in HK and we found that the best is actually apartment rentals. Hotel rooms are crazy for such a big number of people and with infants (we had 4 at that time and all of them were less than 9 months). And with a kitchenette, it helps with the feeding of little ones' milk at insane hours Smile if they are teething !
Anyway, the suggestion by a current HK-expat is 2 Macdonell Road. The price is awesome for HK standard, it is on the Mid-Levels and though not close to an MTR, you are able to walk down to Pacific Place (with kids in strollers) through HK Park. Cab fare is also very cheap and there is a bus that takes you up that road (but you wont need those as there is a fee shuttle offered by the hotel to Central, Admiralty and Wanchai). This hotel is also directly opposite (link by bridge) to the HK Zoo and Botanical Gardens. I only wish this hotel existed when I was there with 16 people !
Good Luck !

Yes , I have no choice but to be fussy with 2 babies around. Esle I could have just lodged at Kowloon or some tourist hotels.. haha
Initially thought of renting aprtaments with kitchenettes, to boil hot water, make milk, cook porridge and stuff.. but at lest, all those I can find on the internet are either too expensive or inconvenient. Hence back to hotels... it's tough esp when some of their budgets are quite tight.
Thanks everybody! You are all so helpful... I will check out the places recommended. Wish me luck!
Cheers
