help to enter and travel Tibet |
|
|
I'm in Yushu right now and a little bit out of everything and actually planed to go through Xining via Golmud to Lhasa (maybe Nam-tse lake and Shigatse monastery) to stay there until the 5 Sept. and leave to Nepal via friendship road. Luckily I just checked the Thorntree tonight. So what the fuck is going on? is it impossiple to enter, travel Tibet right now? Can I enter by bus from Golmud? (I'm alone) Iit would be great if anybody can tell me what is going on, because this really messes with my plans.
Thanks a lot and peace |

I don't know what you have heard, cause you didn't say. All I can tell you is this is the 40th year of "peaceful liberation" (occupation). I have just come from Lhasa on 16 August. I had a feeling that there would be some restrictions on travel to Tibet, but I don't know for how long, sorry. This is one of the sensitive times to travel to Tibet, the LP does mention this, this year even more so I think. There is going to be a lot of activity in Lhasa, they have built a big stage in front of the Potala and as usual I imagine they are paranoid about toursits witnessing demonstrations. I think it all starts around Septmember the 1st. Go now or you will have to wait until after this date I guess, sorry Good luck! All you can do is ask at CITS if you are going via Golmud.

I've been looking into this, too. Just got an email today saying that I can't fly until Sept. 10 from a ticket agent. I'm not clear on overland trips, though. But I found that there is another posting further down about flying in and out of Lhasa beginning Sep, seems like after 5 of Sep it will be ok. Cheers,I hope you get help from my message |
