more tips about travelling to Xinjiang and Xian? |
|
|
Hi,
Does anyone have a recommendation for a place to stay in Urumqi and Xi'an ($8-$15 per night)? Furthermore, will I be able to find a Chinese guidebook while in Xi'an? I'm flying in from Kyrgyzstan and there's nothing available here and since I don't speak any Mandarin a guidebook might come in very handy. If I can lay my hands on one, that is...
Thanks for your help! |

There is a very nice guidebook on Xi'an (in English) that I purchased in Hong Kong. I believe it is available in Xi'an as well- go into the gift store in one of the expensive hotels and I suspect it will be there. Looking in Hong Kong book stores it was the only one I found (other than the pages in all the major guides).
It's relatively slim and has more on places to see than on hotels, etc - but it has some of that as well. |

It has been a few years since I have been in Xian but I stayed at the hotel next to that mama's home cooking restaruant and it was fine. You should be able to find at least an older book in the city but I am not sure where and it will probably be pricy. |
