Is this hard/costly to hire a driver for a trip in Kunming? |

Hi Everybody
Just wondering what you think of the idea of flying to Kunming, using it as a base, and going on 2- 3 day tour to Lijiang, Dali, Jianshui, etc. Someone also mentioned hiring a driver through a hotel. Is this hard to do? Costly? It would certainly free up the travel. Could anyone help with contacts or suggestions?
Cheers |

First Kunming then on to Dali stay there 2-3 days then bus to Lijang and another 2-3 days. No need to go back to Kunming between Dali and Lijiang.

Yes, don't think that you can "day trip" to Dali and Lijiang. Kunming to Dali, if you take the new road and the 100 kuai bus is 5 hours. Dali on to Lijiang is another 3 hours further. Lijiang as a town is a bit of a disney world (with all of the "old buildings" being actually quite new) and is quite expensive, but it is certainly worth seeing. Moreso, however, most people go to Lijiang to see the surrounding areas. So lijiang would be a better base. |

On the point of good tour ,I thought Lijiang was a big disappointment. I think it is worth one day at the very most.
It's just a bunch of tacky tourist shops that all sell the same thing that have replaced the Naxi people who used to live there.
I thought the best thing about Lijiang, Dali and Kunming was the scenery along the way!!!! At times it was fantastic. |
