what is the trouble I am going to face? |

| Quote: | | I'm planning to try cycle tour from Qinghai province to Lhasa over the next few months, taking the route Xining - Golmud - Amdo - Lhasa. I have heard there are some difficulties with access at the moment on this route, related to the 40 year anniversary of TAR declaration. It sounds like there are 2 main checkpoints on the route that might cause trouble - just south of Golmud, and just north of Lhasa. I would appreciate any advice on dealing with these checkpoints, and information on any others that I might encounter (Nakchu, Amdo?). Are there any other particular places that might cause problems, that I would be advised to get through quickly? Also, any recommended places to stay in any of the towns on route (or places to definitely avoid) would be really useful. |
Thanks |

If you're caught, be polite and submissive. Turn back and try again.
Bring enough money so if you see tents / houses, you can buy food from the people,or leave Golmud in the middle of the night, it might be the best time to avoid the checkpoint. Enter with caution and if theres sign of people at the checkpoint walk around. Do bring a tent with you. accomodation can be scarce when bicycling. bring water and some food. And not to forget warm clothers. it can get very cold at night. |
