You'll see quite a range of skin colours and facial features in Asia, the result of a long history of migrations and deportations. In otherwords it is far from monocultural. I have seen occasionally black US people in bars and night clubs in china, talked to a few and nobody has ever mentioned to me about having particular problems. Also seen an odd black US/local couple.
Outside city centure you would stand out, more so than white europeans say (as there are quite a few of them travelling about). It is just a feeling but i do not think you would have problems, maybe a bit of staring, a result more of curiosity breaking the hum-drum than hostility. |

You will definitely be stared at-even more than other foreigners (if that's even possible). However, as others wrote most of this comes out of curiosity at being the first black person they've ever seen (especially if you're outside the big cities) than racism.
I have seen occasionally black US people in bars and nightclubs in hongkong," Yes but these places are not CA society at large but rather part of the expat/new rich ghetto.
I worked for an IO in the region with 2 West African colleagues and one thing you’ll have to accept indeed is to be some kind of a circus attraction and cope with staring and grinning, especially (but not exclusively) in smaller towns and villages where even a white Westerner is still some sort of a curiosity. For one of my ex-colleagues it became a too much, the other could cope with it well. Other than that, there's little 'classical' racism really and much will depend on your own attitude.
have a good tour |
