Hello,

Does anyone have any advice for young, solo female traveler to Tibet? Is it generally safe? Any general advice? I've traveled extensively before, but never completely alone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I want to do the week long trip from Lhasa to Everest base camp in early August. As a solo traveler, would it be difficult to seek out and join existing groups?

It's not difficulty or dangerous travelling alone as a female in Tibet. I have done it several times with no problems including extensive hitchhiking.
It's easy in Lhasa to find other people to share a 4wd for various tours. Check the noticeboards at the different guesthouses or put up a notice yourself. loads of people are doing that tour and want to fill up a 4wd.

Not as easy as you think it is- I'm a solo woman traveller and have been here since SATURDAY (is now Wednesday) and have not gotten anywhere! I'm VERY VERY frustrated! Everyone only seems to want to go to Nepal( I run around to all the hotels everyday), I simply just want to go to EBC and back to Lhasa. I'm now seriously thinking of booking this thing on my own and paying a small fortune. So be prepared to wait....and wait.....

Have you talked to the people in one of the groups? After the Nepal border trip the 4wd has to return to Lhasa and unless they are picking up a tourgroup they will return empty. Often it's possible to make arrangements ahead so that you will go back to Lhasa with the driver.
Otherwise agree, most people want to go to Nepal at the end of the trip, not returning to Lhasa.
