travel from Kunming to Laos |
|
|
Hi,
I'm planning to backpack around Laos and
Cambodia. I fly into Bangkok and was originally
going to fly from there, however a friend
recommended I fly to Kunming and work my way down
from there. Assuming I get a visa, is it
reasonable to do this? Would it take long and
would you reccomend it?
Thanks! |

Hi haile,I want to use Bangkok as a turnstile for Southeast Asia, too. Getting into Cambodia(maybe a short trip to Saigon from here) and than Laos and Myanmar. 1.The question is from where to get to China? The border crossing from Myanmar to China seems to be more difficult than the one from Laos2. Otherwise, are there air connections from Mandalay(MY) or Luangprabang/vientiane(Laos) to Kunming or Chongqing? Thanks! |

Hi,
I was originally going to fly to Chang Mai from
Bangkok and work my way into and down through
Laos from there... though Thai Airways also just
fly to Kunming... someone recommended the place,
so was just wondering what the feasibility would
be for me to fly a bit further to Kunming and
work south to Laos from there instead. Just not
sure how good an idea that is. ..Guess that's
what my original question is trying to establish.

I understand that if you fly into China with Thai Airways on a China tourist visa, they want you to have a return flight out of China before you can board their plane.Otherwise, you can arrange a visa for Laos at the Laos consulate in the Camellia Hotel, Kunming. It should only take a few days or you could pay extra and get in just one day. Xishuangbanna is an overnight bus trip south of Kunming OR it takes 45 minutes to fly from Kunming. From Xishuangbanna, you can arrange to travel by boat down the Mekong River into Laos. |
