tips on a family(with 2 children touring to HK in Aug |
|

Hi,
Have been reading some of the posts and have found it really helpful. Am planning a trip to HK next month with my husband and children age 6 and 1. It's mainly a shopping cum kids holiday. Hope you are able to advice on the following:
1) Is the Great HK sale still on? Would appreciate if someone could tell me especially whether Lane Crawford will still be on sale. Has anyone been to the Joyce Warehouse and Space Outlet? Are they any good? The last time I went in 2003, I remember going to a Joyce outlet somewhere across the road from Times Square/Causeway Bay area. Is this place still there?
2) Is Ocean Park a fun place for kids? Heard that it looks a little jaded now. What are the other must sees for kids? Is the Planetarium any good?
3) Choice of hotels - Between Hyatt Regency, Sheraton and Shangri-la which would you recommend? I liked the idea of being at the Sheraton as it's apparently right next to the Peninsula and I am hoping to go there for their high tea.
4) My son loves won tan mee and we love dim sum. Any place where we could get both for reasonable prices? Place must be clean as well as I am squeemish about dirty eateries.
Thanks much! |

The Shopping Festival is on until August sometime... so depends WHICH day you are coming in August.
Lande Crawford is going on sale now... as all the other major stores and boutiques... don't know about August... maybe some leftovers only.
Ocean Park is definitely a place for kids in HK... until Disneyland opens... it's the best choice...... Tin also suggested the Space Museum as a place that kids would like as well.
Hyatt Regency- if you are talking about the one in Kowloon, I would definitely avoid it, as it's scheduled for demolition this year, and the service and everything is just at a halt.... don't stay here.
Sheraton - good choice, excellent location. And Shangri-la (Kowloon ?).... also nice, but it's a little further from the center of action in Tsim Sha Tsui as it is in TST East .... further walking distance from MTR and shopping... etc.
One of the best WONTON noodles in TST is the place on Chatham Road and Cameron Road area...... it's BUI GOR (cousin in chinese)... excellent wonton noodle, and congee and rice roll. One of my favorite. And their milk tea is one of the best. Very clean, and excellent food.
Have fun High Tea in Peninsula..... go early, no reservations allowed. |
