Travel permit for Tibet and trip to KTM |
|
|
I'm travelling to Tibet later this year and was wondering how long it will take to get the Travel Permit for Tibet in Chengdu? Is it a matter of a couple of hours or does it take longer?
And, I'll be arriving on Friday in Chengdu, does anyone know if you can start 'the permit process' on that day? ie it's not a day when offices are closed et cetera
One other question, I want to travel from Lhasa to Kathmandu by jeep along the friendship road. How does this work? Do you sign up for such a trip at a travel agency in Lhasa? If so can you recommend one? If you are with two persons is that enough to take the trip from Lhasa to KTM?
Thanks a lot and regards,

Hi,
You can already book your permit in advance, if you give them the data of your passport and maybe your China visa, they will finish everything so you just pick up the "papers".
For your travel plan to Kathmandu why don't you try the new public bus connection? The first international direct bus linking Lhasa and Katmandu are available from April 29. According to agreements, the direct bus launches eight-time round trip per month. The ticket is priced at 70 US dollars. Outbound Chinese passengers could buy tickets straight after going through passport and visa procedures while overseas passengers could buy tickets via tourist agencies. The bus is scheduled to be on voyage at nine am. every Tuesday and Friday. Himalaya Passenger Transport Co., Ltd. |
