I have received a recent request for pictures of Christian churches in Kunming. I have been able to find three (3). Please refer to various parts my gallery.

There is a new protestant church on Renmin Zhonglu with a Chinese name which translates to "Three One". No foreigners were present around 11.15am Sunday morning to explain this name. In fact, there were only a handful of Chinese in the church.

Another protestant church is over on Jinbi Lu. It appears to be disused. There were Chinese women playing cards in a room at the rear close to a very smelly toilet block . The church inside had no pews, was locked and very dusty. Apparently, the church has opened on Christmas Day but only some old people attend.

A small Catholic church is situated on Beijing Lu.This was packed beyond capacity on Christmas eve. It seems as though this church attracts a reasonable amount of local interest. Of course the Catholic expatriate community attend it.

This is all the information I can supply about Christian church buildings in Kunming. One of the other foreign teachers at the university I am at, is a "born again Christian" and goes to meetings in a private house. He is somewhat vague with his information. It appears to be a pentecostal group. All he has clearly stated is that Chinese are not allowed to attend his group's fellowship meetings.I can't really imagine too many wanting to anyhow.

Yunnan's sizable Muslim population dates back to the 13th century, when Mongol forces swooped into the province to outflank the Song dynasty troops. They were followed by Muslim traders, builders and craftsmen. Yunnan was the only region to have been put under a Muslim leader immediately after Kunlai Khan's armies arrived, with Sayyid Ajall named governor in 1274.

To all foreigners, my advice is not to attend private groups except the Kunming International Fellowship which hold the meeting on Sunday morning at a hotel, this is for foreigners only and you need to bring your passport.
The Trinity church also has a English meeting on weekday night, maybe on Thursday. Only few foreigners attend the Sunday morning at 9.30am and afternoon at 2pm.
I guess the only pastor who can speak some English to you is Pastor Zhenghui. Her contact phone number is 0871-6518776. email me or write me for more details.
