I have been to Hong Kong in November with kids around the same age. They absolutely loved every minute of it. If you are going in late November everywhere is beautifully decorated for Christmas.
My kids loved the Peak Tram, the NP360 skyrail and Big Buddha. We had half a day at Disneyland (not a lot there for older kids) went by bus to Stanley Markets (the bus trip was like being on a roller coaster) and shopped most evenings (Temple Street etc). We spent a few hours in the Hong Kong History Museum which has a fantastic interactive display called the Hong Kong Story.
Genki Sushi near the museum is a fun place to eat. Lots of choices and very reasonably priced. The Symphony of Lights laser light display viewed from Tsim Sha Tsui Avenue of Stars is on every evening at 8pm. We walked everywhere, although the MTR is great when feet get tired.
The streets around Mongkok and Prince Edward stations were full of locals going about their daily business and the kids loved seeing this in comparison to the business areas of HK island. Weather while we were there was pleasant, may need a light jacket in the evenings though. No rain but some days were hazy, so wait for a clear one if possible to go up to the peak. |

I suggestion you YMCA Salisbury, the location is excellent and a stone's throw from many places of interest and all the gd restaurants(tsim sha tsui) and bars (soho area).
Harbour city (that's in the New Territories) might be a tad too far from the city but near to the HK wetland park. You'll be spending a lot of time commuting if you stay here. There's not much of a night scene here unless you're counting on checking in the suburban towns of yuen long.
The weather will be ideal in Nov08, it'll be pleasantly cool and typhoon season will be over;p |

I would definitely suggest "Harbour Plaza Resort City" in New territories. It is "simply superb". For the stay and price. We were there for full 7 days.
The only thing was gng against it was the distance away from the city. But all our concerns were put to rest...with Light rail stn Ginza just opp the hotel, which in turn connects u to west rail and then comes ur MTR the gateway to fun....
But trust me if you can a) walk a little, b) get out of hotel by 8 am c) have all the needed train passes it's not a problem at all.The total journey to city is about 1hr 10mins, but with HK's transportation it's a smooth ride.
And we covered up Disney, Ocean Park, Gian Buddha, Peak, Harbour Area/Avenue stars, HK area(tram ride, causeway bay, times square,) Tin Hau temple, Jade Market, Mongkok/Ladies Market, Symphony of Lghts,All the computer centre's, Sham Shui Po area....( very good for purses and bags, better price then ladies market )
Have fun |
