hello everyone~
I am moving to shanghai's changning district on february 23th. i will be teaching english at a primary school about eight days after i arrive, so i have some time to get moved in and a little familiar with my new digs. i have never travelled out of the united states before, and i would love some help.
please excuse my clearly novice inquiries:

how do i go about bringing money over there? do i take traveller's cheques, or exchange it over there from dollars-rmb?

does anyone know how far the changning district is from the bund area?

anyone have any must see/do things in the week that i have to explore before starting work?

any other important things i should know from someone who knows more than me?thanks,

Harry Pu

First, wellcome to Shanghai China.
Easiest to take cash or use ATMs. I assume that you will be paid by the school, so you possibly will only need enough cash to get you started. I would suggest using ATM as you can withdraw only the money you need rather than taking a wad of notes.

Changning district is about 2-4 miles west of the bund. If you have Google Earth, you can point to the Changning district.

Suggest that you get "acclimatised" in the first week, exploring the local area to find shops etc. Since you have not travelled outside the US before, it may be a little of a culture shock. Taking it easy and exploring the local area and city after your arrival will help you settle in.

here are heaps of websites with information and advice for foreign teachers in China. Just try googling.
