a big blue lake? |
|
|
Last year (April) I travelled from Golmud to Lhasa by rail.
Enroute the train passes very closely (a few hundred metres) to an enormous large turquoise blue lake. The lake was not frozen at the time.
Was this Nam-tso lake???
Some travellers I met in Lhasa said it wasn't!?
Does the Lhasa train ever run near to Nam-tso lake?
Thanks. |

I'm not sure where you exactly see this lake ,there is no such a big lake between Golmud and lhasa . you might talking about the Tsonog bo(Qinghai lake),the tsongnag po is a bigest lake in Tibet even bigest salty lake in China. it known it's vast lake and bird Island.
it's about 150kms to southwest of Xining (the capital city of Amdo Tibet).but it's located between Xining and Golmud.not Golmud and LHASA.Cheers! |

I saw the same lake from the train and wondered... But I learned later: No, definitely not Nam Tso.
Nam Tso is some 40 -50 km northwest of both the railway line and the Golmud-Lhasa Road behind a mountain range which you have to cross - reaching some 5200m in altitude. Alos: NamTSo is MUCH!!! bigger than the water you and I saw - although it's picturesque, too |
