Can anyone help us with train advice from Guilin/Nanning to Hanoi. We believe there is a train every Monday and Friday from Guilin. Does anyone

have any more info on this??
Is there a better way to get there??

You can find fantastic info on train travel at seat61.com. I just had a wee look and it says that there is a Beijing to Hanoi train which you can pick up from Guilin at 14:36 Mondays & Fridays or from Nanning at 21.15 Mondays & Fridays. The fare from Nanning is approximately GBP21 (for a one way soft sleeper) if booked at the ticket office.

That said, the Vietnam Rail website (vr.com.vn) says that the train now departs from Beijing on Thursdays and Sundays so maybe the best thing to do is ask at a rail station office.

If you are in China just now, we always found the station staff to be helpful. Perhaps get hostel/hotel reception staff to write out your requirements on a piece of paper before you go to the station just in case there are language difficulties (if that isn't stating the obvious too much)!
Happy travels
