hi there

We'll only be in Shanghai for a couple of days and mainly for sightseeing.
I read many reviews on TripAdvisor and elsewhere which include the "if you want to be in the Pudong area" or "it was just as good as..." and so forth.
Does it really matter all that much?thanks.

To me it would matter a lot. Pudong is on the other side of the river from the main part of the city.

If I am not mistaken, Pudong barely existed a decade ago. Although there are good hotels in Pudong, and most certainly good places to eat (this, from what I have read as I never ate there..) it is inconvenient to most sites and many restaurants and shops that you may want to visit.
