Hello,

Can anyone tell me where there are shop(s) in Lijiang and Chengdu that sell high quality down jackets (and liner gloves, good socks etc)?

We are about to travel to Tibet, so need them with good loft and construction.
Does anyone know if down jackets are made with the type of box construction that good sleeping bags have?

So far in Kunming and Dali we have only found jackets that have the baffles constructed by sewing the lining and outer together, which allows the cold through at this stitching (brrrr!)

dont know about lijiang, but chengdu has lots of options.
parkson right near mao square has a genuine north face outlet with genuine western prices.

down on the intersection of renmin nan zhong lu and yi huan (1st ring road) there are a few shops selling outdoor stuff.

then over in the tibetan quarter theres a whole bunch of shops selling everything from crap, to decent fakes, to real gear. occasional bargains, but mostly what you pay for.

Better buy in Chengdu; there are some shops around Lijiang old town, but much tougher bargaining as they live on the endless stream of tourists passing through.

Renmin Nan Lu 1st Ring Road should be the first place to check. The shops are on the west side of Renmin Nan Lu running along the 1st Ring Road other side of the street from the big computer malls). Lots of other places too scattered around the city. Tibet town/Wuhou Temple, around Xinnanmen bus station, etc.
