We have 21 day for our first China trip, we'll go to places like Chengdu, Urumqi, Turpan, Dunhuang, Jiayuguan, Lanzhou, Xian, Datong, Beijing and lastly to Shanghai. My question is if I can give Kashgar a miss? I asked it because I read a lot of good recommendations about Kashgar from various travel web sites and I know our itinerary is a tight one,hope you guys can help me out. Thanks. max

I would say it is completely ok. Many people want to go to Kashgar for China-Pakistan border.If that is not your priority, you can forget it or leave it untill next time you are in China.
Don't make your schedule too tight. If you want to have a deepened understanding of the cities and places you go to, it will take you much more time than you expect.
