I'm planning my first trip to China this year and would like a comfortable, clean hotel ,in a good location up to about US$100 per night. I am a member of the Accor Hotels (Novotel, Sofitel) and Holiday Inn/Crown Plaza loyalty programs and wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I was considering the Holiday Inn Downtown. I love being in a location where you can walk out of the hotel and be somewhere, if you know what I mean and I hate to sound like a Princess, but it needs to, not only BE clean, but really LOOK clean. By that, I mean, that some hotels look grubby when they're really only a little old and tired. Am I asking too much?

I have been to the Peace Hotel and it is clean and a nice place to stay. It sits right on the Bund, overlooking the river. It has a great view from the roof top, over looking a lot of the city.
