You don't need to book in advance. What you do get is a reserved seat when you buy your ticket. At Guangzhou East station (Guangzhou Dong Zhan) go up the escalators to the top - on the top floor is a ticket office - clearly marked above the door "To KOWLOON". It is usually very quiet and the ticket seller speaks some English (which in China is a big plus). You buy your ticket and go through to a waiting area. When the train is about to leave you go through the gate and pass through exit immigration and get on the train. It is all very civilized in comparison to other Chinese stations I have been in. Depending upon which train you have reserved, normal or express, the journey to HK will take 1hr 45min or 1hr 30min. The seats are comfy and they will even sell you something to drink, at an exhorbitant rate. |
