I'll be in Yunnan Province (Kunming, up to Lijiang) in March. It looks mountainous where I'm wondering if I'll need warm clothing for that time of year? Do the nights get chilly? The rest of my trip will be in the warmer climates of Thailand, Vietnam.

It can get pretty cold, especially at night, especially the higher up into the mountains you get. I didn't have any warm clothes with me, so I got a (light) wool coat made in Vietnam, then bought long underwear in Kunming to wear under my regular travel clothes, and it was fine. Kunming is an easy place to shop for very cheap stuff you can get rid of later.

It's a gorgeous part of the world you're headed for--I'm jealous just thinking about it.
