travel across the border from Nepal to Tibet, then go on...? |

Hey you fellow travellers!
Has somebody recently crossed the border from Nepal to Tibet and then continued to elsewhere in China? I would like to spend about 2 months in China after Nepal, but there seems to be lots of different opinions of this route and it's success possibilities. The Chinese Embassy told me that it's no problem to leave the tour group (that I apparently have to join in Nepal, in order to be able to cross the border), but I'm not 100% convinced that she understood me correctly.
Thank you for your help and advices. |

please don't get too excited by seeing a reply here - truth is I want to do something similar to you but the other way around. I would like to start in Beijing, travel down to Chengdu, go in to Tibet, out through Nepal and end up sunning myself on the beach in Kovalam, Kerala (southern India) for Christmas 2006 (so it's a long way off yet). Total time for the trip would be about 4 months (2 months China, 1 month Tibet, 2 weeks Nepal, 2 weeks India).
So I realize that any answer may be invalid by the time I go to take my trip but I'm just curious if it is even possible now. |
