Are there nice gifts or souvenirs from Kunming/China that does not take up too much baggage space, inexpensive (please give me a price range) and perhaps have long shelf life and where can I get them?

Yunnan province is famed for its embroidery from its ethnic minorities. Pu-erh tea is also a famous item and can be found everywhere. But be warned that some scrupulous teashops sell you "used" tea leaves from tea houses! Yunnan ham is also a good item if your country allows imports of meats. You can also buy dried rice noodles ala Yunnan style too.
