I read in one of the travel articles that there is a place called Yiwu inbetween shanghai and hangzhou? It is supposed to be a shopping mecca, with about 20,000 shops..its also known as the China Small Commodities city... may i know how i can get there from Shanghai..possible to travel via taxi, or train, or are there local tours that bring us there? Also, is it worth going there? anything interesting to buy?

It's about 4 hours from the Yiwu to shanghai.Yiwu is famous for her small commodities such as gifts,handicrafts,plastic goods etc.The whole city is a very big "small-commodities city" where you can find what you want.And it attracts many foreingers around the world too.

You can find all the information about Yiwu at the following address:

Concerning the transportation from Shanghai to Yiwu, it is 4h15 by train (around 50-55 yuan), 100 yuan by bus, or 500 to 1000 by taxi.
There was an airline between Shanghai and Yiwu but I don't know if it is still in service now. Anyway, by plane from Yiwu you can go to Beijing, Guangzhou and many other domestic destinations.
