is the weather in Yunnan in January/Feb adapt to tour? |

I am planning on travelling to Yunnan during the Spring festival (between January 22nd and February 1 .
I know it will be kind of cold in Kunming, but how cold will it get as I go up North-West, towards Lijiang, the Tiger leaping Gorge, Zhongdian and Deqin? From reading the LP China, it seems as Zhondian and Deqin are pretty high in altitude (3000-3500 m). Is it possible to go there during winter? (i.e. will I die?) Do you think roads might be blocked? If it is too cold, I might cut my trip North at the Tiger Leaping Gorge. Will it still be possible to make the two-day trek there? |

Kunming in late Jan last year was bright and fresh and sunny. It was similarly sunny in Dali and Lijiang - although pretty cold, especially once the sun went down. Zhongdian was snowy and freezing - literally; the pipes in every hotel we tried were frozen so no running water! Tiger Leaping Gorge was, again, very sunny but cold at night. Good conditions to walk in though. We did the trek in two and a half days.Kunming: 4-17c average, Lijiang -7c to 10c, Zhongdian about 5c colder again than Lijiang. Note that these are average temps |
