China for 3 weeks, tour or solo - can anyone offer advice? |

Hi there.
I'm planning on going in August and from what I've read China isn't the easiest place to get around due to the language barriers. As we're only there for 3 weeks, is it better if I joining a tour to make getting around easier or will we be ok on our own? I want to fly to Beijing, train to Xian , train/fly to Guilin, stay in Yangshou, then go to Chongquin and do a cruise down the Yangtze to Yichang then fly out from Shanghai.
is it easy to find good hotels on my trip?
I would hate it if I got there only to find out that it might take 2 days before I can get on a train, book a cruise etc. I've done South East Asia where it's really easy to just travel around and was wondering if China would be the same?
Any help would be fantastic. |

There is definitely a language barrier in China, but no bigger than a smile and a dictionary can help you a great deal of the way. You may often find that the Chinese will go out of their way to help you. So don't be afraid, go solo, it's nicer...
Have you considered seeing HuangShan (the Yellow Mountains) when travelling from Yichang to Shanghai? They are very beautiful and you don't need to be perfect physical shape to enjoy them...
Have fun |
