Hi,
I have a cannon ixus 500 and want to buy a second battery and a large memory card. Can anyone tell me if its worth getting this in Beijing or is it better to wait until I get to HMC in Vietnam? If Beijing, can anyone recommend a place close to Tianamen Sqr or on the subway routes.

Beijing is a reasonable place to buy memory cards.
I picked up a 256MB card for RMB350 recently (about US$41); a high speed 512MB card was about RMB700-800. These were Sony memory sticks, a compact flash or whatever Canon takes may be a little cheaper.
Avoid the camera shops in Wangfujing (you may come across these as they are near Tiananmen) as they are way overpriced. Take a taxi/subway to LANDAU (Landao?) which is just off the East 2nd Ring Road (all taxi drivers know it). The building just west of Landau I've actually found is marginally better than Landau itself. Both places are full of camera/computer/gadget shops. It's less than 10 mins walk from the subway station.
You can bargain a little bit. |
