Travelling to Beijing, Help needed |

hi all, I'll be travelling to beijing from 13th May to 28th May. I would like to know which are the places that I have to see and since it's quite a long trip, I was hoping to go out of Beijing probably south to other parts of China like Shanghai. How many days should I stay in Beijing? My flight back is unfortunately in Beijing so I can't stay in Shanghai til I leave China?I was hoping anyone who has been to China can suggest the best way to spend my only holiday of the year. Thanks for any suggestions you contribute. |

Be sure to visit Panjiayuan market on your second day in Beijing as it is only open on weekends.
I don't think Shanghai is a good choice unless you are including other destinations around the Yangtze River delta. (Huangshan, Suzhou, Tongli, Hangzhou, etc.)
Xi'an is the most logical excursion out of Beijing. You can stop along the way at a couple of interesting sites in Shanxi province, namely Datong and Pingyao.
Another easy option is Henan province to see Luoyang and the Shao Lin kung fu temple or you can also go to Shandong province to visit the hometown of Confucius in Qufu.
It is possible to head west to Xi'an and then go east to Luoyang and return north to Beijing in one big circle.
Shandong's Qufu and Hebei's Shanhaiguan (where the Great Wall meets the Yellow Sea) are easy 2-3 day excursions out of Beijing. |
