Driving in Shanghai |
|

Is it relatively easy to rent a car in Shanghai?
I have an international driver permit, but I can't find information online about how to go about this.
Are there reputable agencies that I should use and can I contact them from Australia before I venture to Shanghai?

in shanghai there are 2 possibilities to get a chinese driving license.
a) at the airport a temporay one (but here i dont know the details that well)
b) make a chinese DL
- takes one day and around 300rmb
- next to other documents a copy incl translation of DL is needed (internat not accepted)+resident permit
- health check (around 1 hour)
- written test of 20 (!not 100!) questions; these 20 come out of a pool from 100questions; and these 100questions can be received in advanced and learned -- so its a piece of cake (btw blueline - dont know any foreigner who didnt pass this test)
- DL <3years; a drving test is required
conner - should you move here, a driving a car in shanghai is fun; but as huaihai said before - at the beginning it is better to take the taxi and get used to the traffic |
