Quite a lot of travellers in Xinjiang enjoying the beauteful area. Kashgar with the old part of the town, the Sunday market and animal market. taklamakan desert, tarim Bassin and other areas with interesting excavations. Urumqi and surrounding areas like Turfan. Quite good area and a good area to explore the old Silk Road or jumping off point to Pakistan and other stans.I recommend to combine it with Pak and either Kyr or Kaz. Especially enjoyed Yarkand and taking a bike and head into the surrounding villages around Kashgar. Karakul lake and the beginning of the Xinjiang parts of the Pamirs is interesting too. There is a lot of mysticifaction about Kashgar and Turfan .It is a stunning place to visit - check out Kanas Lake in the far north - incredible. Travel up the east road and back to Urumqi via the west road if you go - or the reverse - an incredible trip. Birqin, Karamay and the other towns in the north-west of the province are great. |
