Nanjing Road is the central shopping street, the busiest one in China, and ends up to the east at the Bund. A really good, "can't miss", place is Nanshi or Old Town in the Yu Garden area. Just walk south on Henan Road from Nanjing and make a left onto Fangbang. GREAT shopping along Fangbang and that will take you into the Yu Garden area. Here you will find tons of little shops and the Garden itself in the center.
If you want to find yourself in the middle of a great "real Chinese" food market, take Henan south from Nanjing and make a rightb (west) on Renmin (which is before Fangbang) and make a left (south) shortly thereafter onto one of the streets, maybe Juicang or Xiangyuan Jie. Just make your way through the alleys till you find it. Another great place to go is the Xiangyang market or the "fake stuff" market. They have fake Gucci, Prada, Northface, Rolex, just tons of stuff! Crazy place but be sure to bargain hard! They speak enough English to bargain with you. It is off Huaihai between Shaaxi and Xiangyang. You can take the Line One subway to the Shanxi subway stop, walk west along Huaihai from there and you will see the entrance on the south side of the street.
Another great place to see is the Oriental Pearl Tower which gives you a great view of the city, especially on a clear night. It is on the Pudong side of the river, take the Number two subway and get off at the Lujiazui stop and you will be right at the base of the tower. Across the street is also the Jin Mao tower, which has an observation deck on top on the 88th floor.
Hope this helps! |
