This will be my first Chinese New Year coming up and I would like to travel from Shanghai down the eastern coast through Zhejiang and Yunnan Provinces.
I plan to take overnight trains down and fly back to Shanghai from Guangzhou. Can anyone recommend cool day trips from Kunming,Suzhou,or any major cities I might pass through?
Interested in nice parks and temples, villages with character, and some partying in Guangzhou. Thanks!

I just tried booking plane tickets from Shanghai to Xian for Feb 2 and those were sold out. The travel agent checked and found that the only available was either February 9 or January 30. Nothing in between!!! You better buy tickets now
