Hello from an Englishman
From 1st Jan, you can no longer get a Chinese Visa by Post, but must travel to your local Chinese Embassy or Consulate for it.
Unfortunately for me, that is a rather lengthy and expensive journey from here to Edinburgh.
My wife is Chinese, so does not need a Chinese Visa, but our baby girl (due in October) will be born in the UK, so will also have a British Passport like myself, and so will also need a Chinese Visa. My wife and baby plan to stay a bit longer than the 30 days limit for a Tourist Visa.
Due to the above - might it be easier for baby and me to get our Visas in Hong Kong, as we will probably stay a few days there prior to entering China.
Best regards.

Tony

That's a wise move. Fly to HK, both of you needn't entry visa. Then YOU can just apply for a visa in the Consulate. It is easy, straight forward and it takes no longer than a few hours with the express service they have.
