Me and my wife want to hike the Simtai Section of the Great Wall, first week of March. But the guide books are scaring the heck out of us, saying we need to be really physically fit, people sometimes come down on all fours and etc etc..Though we are not seasoned hikers, we not completely out of shape..Is it doable and is it worth it ??

My question is, Has anybody who don't consider them great athletes, finished this section ? Is it real dangerous ? How do we get guides to go with us ? I mean where should we get them with the taxi ? How much would it cost ? From Simtai where should we jhike to ? Is there a cheat sheet about this hike ? Any information is much appreciated,

Thanks a ton,

Leo

Have been to Simatai several times and never had a problem. You need to be a little bit careful where you put your feet, and you'll end up out of breath, but that's it. I'm certainly no athlete and I loved it! Don't let the book put you off!
