Current plans are to arrive in China via HK, 2nd week of October to avoid disruptions - then head north for the next 5 - 6 weeks to BJ. Most information says that autumn is the best time to travel, but is this getting too much into winter? From info I can gather, the temp is down, but at least rainfall is low as well! But since when can you trust book lernin'? Anyone have some advice for Beijing in early-mid Nov? Should we try and get to BJ as early as possible in early Oct and then head south?

I'd recommend starting in Beijing and heading down to Hong Kong as well. Especially if you're coming from a warmer place!
