I want to go to Xian for 2days, 1 night and would like to fly from Beijing, I am in NYC, what would be the best way to do this? Wait until I get to Beijing? Book with Air China in NYC? What would it cost? Also is it OK to stay at 3 star hotels in Xian?

In China, you don't have to book your air ticket early as you do in US. It's also hard to tell what price you will get in May since there is always some discount from the original price. Try to avoid the beginning of May which is a national holiday in China. Since many people go out during this time, the air ticket will be hard to get and less discount, but after that period, it's no surprise to see less than half price of the original price.

I think it is difficult to assure plane ticket price as it is discounted at different rage.in these days you can buy it 420~840 depending on different aviation company.
you can stay 3 star hotel in xian ,and some better thre star hotel in xian listed bellow for your reference: Wenshang Hotel US$19 Located in the heart of the Xian city center. Some of the city famous sight are nearby.

Hi,
You can get 60% discount in theory on domestic airtickets. But there is certain things ou have to notice:
1. These tickets are available on limited number, there are many people hunting for it, therefore you have to get it as soon as you find it available, it might be not available after 10 minutes after you have found it.
2. Those tickets which are sold on very low fare usually have strict policy on changing the flight date, refunding ect. check it clearly before you pay for it.
3. In high seasons if you want to get the air tickets on your arrival the the chances are quite tough, you have to do it in advance.

About the hotel
3 star hotels are alright, but there are many diffirences in between the hotels even on the same staring rate, therefore you have to ask for the facilities, location ect before you book.
