experience on travel from Kashgar to Nepal and India |
|
|
Hi there
This May I'm planning to travel from Kashgar into Tibet and to Nepal. I'm looking for people who've done it.
a) do you need a permit to enter Tibet?
b) can you enter alone?
c) would it be less suicidal to take the Karakoram Highway to Pakistan and from there into India?
Thanks a lot |

Yes you need a permit to enter Tibet from Kashgar. The road to Ali is at a very high altitude and generally considered risky. You will not get a permit as an individual traveller but need to be in a group.
The easiest way if you want to go that way is trying to hitchhike from Khargilik (Yerchen). Not always possible. Sometimes they are more strict than other ties at the checkpoints. The road is closed at specific times per month due to maintainance work. The road crosses the Kunlun and is at a very high altitude making altitudesickness and freezing an real issue. No medical facilities on the road.
Crossing the Karakorum and go that way to India is less suicidal. Don't count on getting a Pakistan visa at the border . |
