BEIJING is rebuilding all of its bus platforms and stops to implement passenger cueing areas, starting May 10, Beijing Daily reported today.
The renovation will be finished before April 30, the newspaper said.
The move was initialized because of the newly issued traffic cards. The public transport authority believes that if passengers line up for the buses, they will be able to swipe their traffic cards more efficiently to pay the bus fare. All of the platforms will have guardrail’s installed, the newspaper said.
Areas that typically have a large amount of passengers will have traffic assistants to maintain the order. Nearly 5,000 more traffic assistants will be added to guide the passengers on and off the buses, the newspaper said.
The city has listed eight stops where the traffic assistants will be, especially during peak hours, including the Beijing Zoo; Sihui, Dongzhimen; Beijing West Railway Station; eight major streets including Chang’an Street; the Second and Third Ring Roads.
The municipal government is calling for this bus etiquette to raise local residents’ behaviors, said Li Xiaosong, vice director of the Beijing Municipal Committee of Communication. |
