I only have those five days and will be on my first visit to Beijing and would appreciate any ideas or guidance.
Does it make sense to go down to Xian??
How is it possible to get a less touristy tour of the Great Wall?

I will hope to take photographs of the 'old' Beijing more so than the new Beijing, as I'm fascinated and enthralled by older cities and sights.

I gather that the area of the Hutong might be a good place to be, perhaps to stay in a courtyard type of hotel. Internet access is important, but I suppose I can get that in a cafe as well as a hotel.
Would appreciate any assistance or guidance.
