Hey, don't sweat it. So many of us find ourselves in this situation. Its really very easy. You go down to 333 Wusong Lu (the immigration/visa office north of the Bund) and go to the back section of the building. This is a special area for those of us who overstay our visas. Basically, they will extend your stay and make you pay a fine, then you can apply for a new visa in the front section of the building. How much will you pay? It depends on who is behind the counter and you can politely ask if its possible to reduce the fee (i.e. bargain with them) - it could be anywhere between Y1,000 and Y5,000.
This is the exact process that an immigration agent will take you through and the only advantage might be that they will get a reduced fee for you - but this isn't guaranteed. You may as well do it yourself, especially if you have a local friend or your Chinese is up to par. |
